Hristo Yanev will step down as head coach of CSKA after the Bulgarian Super Cup match against Levski, he announced himself at the pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
“Before you start bombarding me with questions, I want to say something I have thought through carefully - tomorrow will be my last match in charge of CSKA. I am making this decision in view of the war being waged against me and against the club, which is creating tension among all of us. I am doing this in order to put into action what I said at my first press conference. I came to CSKA to help the team get out of this difficult situation,” Yanev said.
“Today I asked myself whether I had done anything wrong against the team - categorically not,” said the 47-year-old.
“The attacks are not stopping, the insults are becoming ugly, and this is something that makes me forget all my dreams and goals. Everything I have fought for. For me, there is nothing more important than CSKA as a club and as a team being in a good place. I hope that in this way I can take the pressure off everyone. Since I joined the club in 2000 [as a player], this is the first time I have seen such a well-organized club from within and such a well-organized attack from outside. What hurts me most is that some of the attacks are coming from people who proudly proclaim that they are CSKA supporters. You are not supporting CSKA,” he added.
